Teddy Atlas, a respected boxing trainer and TV personality has been a regular target of boxing writers as source for predictions or pre-fight analysis. Recently, he has has given his thoughts on the super mega fight between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto saying Pacquiao will beat Cotto within 3-5 rounds. According to him, Pacquiao will be too much because Cotto is damaged goods and will be haunted by Margarito sting everytime he fights.
Atlas, though is not considering Manny Pacquiao as the best in the sport today. He believes Floyd Mayweather is still on top since he really never left the sport. Juan Manuel Marquez is in his list at second spot for its recent achievements and victories over very quality opponents. Third on his list is Pacquiao. When asked if Cotto is in his list, Atlas simply answered, "I would put him at the very bottom."
Although Atlas has been in the sport for a while now, you will find contrasting views on the P4P list as most experts see Manny Pacquiao as the legitimate number one. Come November 14th, I wouldn't be surprised if Atlas still doesn't give credit to Pacquiao because Cotto according to him is damaged goods. When can Atlas consider Pacquiao as number one?

ReplyDeleteI prefer Atlas to say Cotto will win the bout coz the opposite always comes true. He hates the internet thinking that his sound judgments and opinion alone dwarf that of so called boxing columnists/experts'. His mouth is bigger than Mayweather and time and time again as every pacman's win will put his so-called expertise into question. He should be interviewed instead for his opinion on girls that can kick balls in Afganistan, maybe his analysis will shine.
ReplyDeleteNever believe Atlas in all his predictions. He is not a boxing expert at all in my mind. He talks a lot but alot of his ideas is out of this world. In the ESPN boxing show where he is an analyst, most of the time I laugh how he illustrates, what a boxer should do to defeat his opponent. His ideas regarding this is said easier than done. Atlas won't be a good trainer.

ReplyDeleteobviously atlas was never rehabilitated. acts like a thug talks like a thug, shown at the beginning of the interview wherein he was immediately accusatory and confrontational (he feels this gives him an edge so he can ramble on forever w/o much interference, also proud of his intimidating scarface).

What teddy didn't realize was that, it was manny who led marquez to think he can also compete in the higher weights, particularly at lightweight where many critics has given him edge over the pacman regarding the quality of opponents both have faced. if not the gut and the no fear determination of the pacman to invade the higher weight divisions, marquez wouldn't have dared to challenged the baby bull and the aging casamayor. If not for pacman, jmm will not be fighting pbf. But trust me, jmm would realized that manny in higher weights where he is more comfortable at, is just in another level above him.
