Emmanuel Steward: "I can help Cotto knock Pacquiao out"

The good trainer Emmanuel Steward, in a recent report, told that he thinks Cotto has what it takes to knock Pacquiao out. He said this wishing that Cotto's camp would contact him and hire him as the the WBO champ's head trainer for his upcoming fight with pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao.

We know Steward as a good trainer but as a credible source of prediction, I don't think so. He has predicted Manny to get knocked out by Oscar dela Hoya last year. He also said Hatton's strength would be too much for Pacquiao, that Manny's speed is enough to make the fight a toss up, but he believed Hatton would win by points against Pacman. All his predictions or perceptions on both fights were completely opposite to what really happened after the fight.

This made me think that whatever he says about Cotto knocking out Pacquiao, it doesn't worry me or anyone I suppose. He may be a good trainer, but he has been underestimating Pacquiao's skills.

Or was he just throwing some baits to get a job from Cotto? It has been rumored that Steward might be tapped to help Cotto in his fight against Pacquiao.

  1. I would have to say Emmanuel Steward's prediction could be a reality once he trains Cotto...reason being is that he has been a keen observer of Pacquiao fights as a commentator of HBO....he might have found a way through teh pacman style of fighting...so if Cotto will be able to follow Steward's instructions assuming that he will be training the Boricua gladiator, then this might just happen. But the only way Steward's strategy works, assuming that it will work, is for a boxer fighting Pacman to equal or if not surpass PAcman's speed, and footwork. IMO the only way to beat pac is to counterpunch him, but you have to be faster that PAc, sad to say cotto doesn't have the speed. I still think the only fighter to have a chance of beating pac now is Mosley, a fast JMM, or a disciplined and properly trained Joan Guzman

  2. He said "He CAN HELP KNOCK PACQUIAO OUT." its true that Cotto has what it takes to knock pacquiao out. Is there something false in that??? Any good boxer as long as properly trained and motivated CAN. you mean to say PAC can just walk through COTTO? Geez... PAC CAN VERY MUCH BEAT COTTO, and vice versa. Anything can happen in the ring. Geez...

  3. To the person that said that it might be a reality once Steward gets on board with Cotto must be kidding right?
If Steward was so abundantly knowledgeable about the Pacman's blueprint, then why has he predicted the opposite of each outcome?
It's like saying if you can't do, teach. Why would Cotto want to know that Steward was wrong in more ways than one based on prev fights and then hire him as a leader to conquer the aforementioned false predictions?

  4. EVERYONES PREDICTION FALLS SHORT!

THEYRE SAYING PACMAN IS SMALLER THAN COTTO.
(ARE THEY TALKING ABOUT THE HEIGHT?)
    WAIT..
    PACMAN IS 5'6"
    COTTO IS 5'7"
THATS ONLY HALF (1/2) AN INCH DIFFERENCE!

THEYRE SAYING COTTO IS THE BIGGER GUY. TRUE!
(HE BALLONED TO 160-170LBS COME FIGHT NIGHT)
BUT THAT EXCESS LBS IS ONLY FATS AND WATERS WHO MAKES THE FIGHTER A BIT SLOWER COMES THE FIGHT.
IF IT ADDS SOME POWER PUNCH, THEN IT ALSO ADDS SOME SLOWER WORK RATE.

  5. I think Pacquiao would have problem beating smaller, fast guys than him...Don't you think so? He had hard time beating JMM. But he hardly had issue coming up against bigger guys. But the thing is, usually smaller guys could not take the power puch of Manny.

  6. Your prediction that the opposite of what Emmanuel Stewart says will happen in the cotto vs pacquiao fight was "dead on". What a fight it was. Stewart was trying to talk up Cotto even into the second round. You'd think from what Stewart was saying that Cotto was winning the round. Then they showed Pac outpunched Cotto 31 to 16 in that round. It only got worse in the 3rd and 4th when Cotto got floored. After a while Stewart finally realized he was gonna be wrong "again" and started saying Pacquaiao is the best in history. LOL He did't even think he could beat Cotto before the fight started.
